The Monroe Building
756 N. Milwaukee Street

CATEGORIES:
Suspended Structural Concrete

Parking Facility Construction and Repair

OBJECTIVE:
Conversion of a 30-foot-deep abandoned Wisconsin Electric powerhouse basement into a two-story underground parking structure. Though other contractors were asked to consider the project, Barthenheier was the only one able to produce a plan to realize this vision.

SOLUTION:
A system of ramps and poured-in-place structural concrete decking completed the conversion that several other contractors had deemed impossible. Barthenheier provided design and construction services, including development of the initial drawings, partnership with the right engineering contractor and coordination of the project.

RESULT:
A previously unusable space is now a highly sought-after, indoor parking facility for approximately 170 vehicles below a newly renovated office building.

The project was featured in Western builder magazine, May, 2001.
